I called to your office last Friday morning, unfortunately you weren't there and I didn't get a chance to ring as I meant to later. I would like to know what your position is on the government's intention to employ 1000 registered nurses for little more than minimum wage and what you intend on doing to reverse this cut? I am currently a 4th year student nurse. I do 45 weeks of clinical placement during my degree with no pay, a further 36 weeks for less than minimum wage while also completing final college assignments, and having done all this, when I finally qualify with an honours degree, the only offer of employment from the HSE will be for less money than I would make working in McDonalds. I can make double this amount in Australia. Why are registered nurses being driven from the country in this way?

What is being done to prevent the downgrading of Waterford Regional Hospital with the loss of 1,000 staff, massive loss to the local economy & the inevitable loss of life due to the closure of Cardiology, Orthopedics & Oncology departments amongst others? 500,000 people are in the region covered by WRH.
