Statement by the Taoiseach - Exiting the Bailout (Video)

I wish, as a matter of courtesy, to inform Dail Eireann of the outcome of a Government meeting this morning.

The Government has decided that Ireland will exit the EU-IMF assistance programme on December 15, without the need to pre-arrange a new precautionary credit line from our EU and IMF partners.

This is the right decision for Ireland, and now is the right time to take this decision.

Freedom of Information Bill 2013 Committee Stage

The Select Sub-Committee on Public Expenditure and Reform will discuss the FOI Bill at Committee stage this week.

There are concerns, particularly from the online open data community, that the late-stage amendments to the FOI Bill will have a negative impact on transparency in public office and be detrimental to our democracy.

Health (Fluoridation of Water Supplies) (Repeal) Bill 2013

Bill entitled an Act to repeal the Health (Fluoridation of Water Supplies) Act 1960, to provide for offences for the fluoridation of water and to provide for related matters

The Bill will be introduced to the Dail by Sinn Fein Deputy Brian Stanley.

Deputy Stanley is a member of the Joint Committee on Environment, Culture & Gaeltacht. Select Committee on Environment, Community & Local Government. Joint Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure & Reform and Select Committee on the Department of Taoiseach.

The Reform of Local Government

Today the Environment, Culture and the Gaeltacht Committee will be discussing the reform of Local Government with a wide variety of stakeholders.

Chair of the Committee Labour Party TD Michael McCarthy said that the session will provide a range of perspectives from representatives of organisations attached to local authorities as well as from wider society.

" We all want to see effective, efficient and modern system of local government that serves their local communities and responds to their needs," said Deputy McCarthy.
