DailWatch is a politically neutral, non-profit initiative that allows citizens to engage in direct
dialogue with all members of the Dáil. Our vision is of a more responsive political elite and a more participatory citizen population. The platform also allows voters to track TD’s behaviour by providing access to their voting records and previous speeches. DailWatch is intended as a mutually beneficial tool that benefits both constituents and their representatives by removing all intermediaries and facilitating direct, respectful communication.
The idea originated from and is in partnership with, a German charity called ParliamentWatch and is funded here by the Joseph Rowntree Charitable Trust. We also recently received a grant from Ireland Funds Young Leaders and the Social Entrepreneurs Ireland Wavechange Programme. The translation of the site to Irish was funded by Foras na Gaeilge. Dailwatch.ie also relies on one-off and regular donations. ParliamentWatch extends down to the local level in Germany and attracts around 3 million users a month.
The website is moderated according to a Code of Conduct to maintain the integrity of the forum. The project is also overseen by an esteemed Board of Trustees. All questions and answers are stored permanently on the site forming the voters’ ‘virtual memory’ and encouraging consistency and accountability.
